Good question, you cough and cough, while u cough, cough out all the nervousness,, or just clear your throat before you start ... o k ok bad example.... Now here is what you should do: Take a very good look at the environment around you.... notice the colors, shapes, find things people or objects that are familiar to you... and feel good about it. Usually i get nervous when i do a school speech facing like 3000 people, man that is freaking intense.... but in the class room i am usually fine.... because i know my classmates better than most school mates, i am more familiar with the presented atmosphere. SO i also prepare my presentation thoroughly well.... welll i am assuming you are nervous to present things in front of the class,.... on the other hand if that is not the case, does this happen when you talk to your boy or girl friend or something... i dont know... although this question sound like you are doing a presentation, so do a dumb laugh or something, if you take your audience or presentation too seriously, simply that imagination will kill you before you kill the crowd, i think process of elimination is the best for this case, first know your presentation, 2nd, know your crowd, 3rd, get familiar with your environment, 4th be positive, confident and smile ( feel good about it)
Confidence is what you have before you understand the problem
So, also know exactly what you are going to do when you present, by that i mean know why you are up there, who are the audience if possilble, and know your stuff... Dont expect others to support you (everyone is different) dont expect too much from your self either... The outcome is determined by how frequently you have practiced, not by your will...
Be natural if you can, and keep in mind so what if you are nervous, life goes on !!!
What you try for is up to you.
I feel healthy! I feel happy! I feel terrific!
look on the bright side, this nervous ness may become a terrific memory for the future to look back on ... "When nothing is sure, everything is possible

Wouldn't you just rather actually be calm and confident instead of just appearing that way. The only really way to actually be calm and confident is to know who you truly are in reality. We are not these bodies, IE; race, color, nationality, job, religion, mind, intelletc, senses, ect. We are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We have to reconnect with our maker to be truly happy and peaceful. Chanting the Maha Mantra is the best means to do so. For more information go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupad- Tells the purpose of human life.

It may be best to openly admit you are nervous. People will immediately 'identify' with you. Everyone gets nervous at some time or other. Plus, you won't feel the additional pressure of trying to hide your true feelings. You may discover that by saying that you feel nervous you actually lose that nervousness! (It is the fear of people 'finding out' that you are nervous that makes you nervous!)
Best wishes and good luck.

simple steps can try:
Breathe deeply, from your diaphragm; breathing from your chest won't relax you. Picture your breath coming up from your "gut."
Slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as "relax," "take it easy." Repeat it to yourself while breathing deeply.
Use imagery; visualize a relaxing experience, from either your memory or your imagination.
Nonstrenuous, slow yoga-like exercises can relax your muscles and make you feel much calmer.
Practice these techniques daily. Learn to use them automatically when you're in a tense situation.

The problem can be handled by developing SELF CONFIDENCE,which it seems you are lacking. For developing self confidence one has to enhance his/her knowledge base and will power. The matters which result in getting you nervous may be identified and then try to manipulate the situation in your favour by mastering those areas, Slowly, you will be able to get rid of this nervousness.
