There is an airport, but the number of international flights is minimal

The airport in Sandakan does not handle international flights as the volume of foreign visitors is not large and the runway is not big enough for the larger airlines. As such, it is only a domestic airport. The only international airport in Sabah is in Kota Kinabalu but there are regular flights between the two.

there is no international airport in Sandakan only domestic.But then you can transit via Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
