When i had stitches i just washed it with soap and water, let the air get to it so it starts to heal but if your going to do anything out doors but gauze around it to keep it safe. Hope this helps and get better soon!!

No ointment is necessary. Remove the gauze once you are in the shower or if you run your hand over warm water. Pat the area dry, do not rub it hard. After it is dry you can apply a bandaide or leave it open to air. I recommend a bandaide during the day and leaving it open to air at night. Do this for 2-3 days and if the recovery is going well, you will no longer need a bandaide.
Watch for signs of infection: If the area becomes super tender and red or pus comes out, contact the doctor. All should go well.

i have had stitches three times in hand/fingers. wash with a good antibacterial soap and warm water. pat dry. keep it covered with a band-aid to prevent it catching on something. i sometime left mine uncovered during the night while i slept. did not use antibiodic ointment/cream

just soap and water is fine really, you can leave it uncovered after the second day, but if your going to get your hands dirty, keep it covered.
