in the nba, i'd take oden...a lot of guys can do what durant does, which is score a lot of points, shoot well, and rebound well, although probably not as well as he does it...oden is very rare indeed, there are very few players left in the game who can completely change the course of a game without scoring, and oden is one of those guys because of his presence in the lane and shot-blocking ability

I would probably take Oden because he's a can't miss already.
Durant does have very good potential and I think he'll be a very good pro, but he's at least two years away from being a solid contributor on an NBA level. Oden seems NBA ready if he can just shake off his right wrist injury. They both will and should apply for the draft and it would be a really bad mistake if they stayed in school. If they suffer a bad injury playing in college, their stock could take a tremendous blow and that would be extremely unfortunate. They both should get drafted this year
1-2, take care of their families and if they want to continue their education they can do it during the NBA off-season. For the sake of this discussion, I'll take Oden and find the other pieces via trades or free-agency.

Oden has a tendency to get in foul trouble but he is a threat in the paint. Durant is less polished but has the natural athletic ability to make it ahrd for big men to gaurd him. Durant plays the 3 or small forward while Oden plays the 5, center so it is like comparing apples and oranges. It will all come down to if Oden declares and who gets the most ping pong balls. Jordan had a great team surronding him.

Durant is far more versatile and progressed far more this year than did Oden. PLEASE don't buy into the "You have to take the 7 ft. dominant phenom" theory. Need I remind you of the 1998 NBA draft. A very young, large and full of potential Michael Olowakandi went #1 overall, while another versatile bigman named Dirk Nowitzki fell to 9th. Further proof that its a horrible theory, not to mention taking Sam Bowie over Jordan in 84. If history has taught us anything it is to use common sense. I think Greg Oden can be a very good player, but Durant has so much more potential.

It really depends on what players you have right now and what your short term roster plans are. For example, the Celtics already have someone (Pierce) who likes the ball in his hands on the wing, and Paul is likely to be playing for Boston for quite a while. So I would take Oden. If Gasol was happy in Memphis, they should take Durant first. But since he is not, they should trade him for a scoring wing player, and take Oden. In fact all the lottery bound teams have high scoring guards (Seattle, Hawks, Bucks, 76'ers). The Bobcats are the only team I could see taking Durant - they already have a bunch of big men.
If I was starting a team from scratch, I would take Durant #1 if I needed to fill the seats ASAP, Oden #1 if I wanted to contend for a Chamionship in about five years.

I would say Durant, just because his numbers are better. But Oden is a monster in the paint. I think after they are drafted into teh nba, Oden has a better chance to become better, becasue of his massive size. Durant is probably playing his best ball right now, and I don't think he is going to get a whole lot better in teh nba. I can't wait to see Oden in the nba, if he gets the ball five foot from teh rim there's no dought that he is gonna dunk it down.

If I want to fill seats I want Durant. The guys is really fun to watch and I'm sure every 10 year old boy in the country is going to want a jersey/poster of his.
If I want to win championships, then I have to go with Oden. Nothing compares to having a dominant big man inside with making a championship team. Michael Jordan is the only 2/3 to ever have a championship team built around him. I'm not ready to call Durant Jordan.

I say Durant. He has a better all around game. Can you imagine Garnett with a consistent 3-point shot? You can't really knock either guy but I think the NBA is more about twos and threes now.
There are ways to take away the post. Double teams and fouls. Durant's game has more ways to hurt you. The post, mid range, penetration and the three.

I'd take Oden since I already have D-Wade, Melo, Boozer and KG on my fantasy team

Both of course. They both have high potential and it will be ashamed when one will not declare to be in this years draft.
