one of my dreams is to see a tornado. in my mind, the best way to do this is to take a trip to the midwest, jump in a car with a bunch of storm chasers and stay with them till I get to experiance one.

1. is this possible?
2. how could I go about finding these people?

I have the same dream too. I'm studying to become a meteorologist to do this. You can go on a tour with storm chasers, but it costs a lot of money to do it. Howard Bluestein does this. You might want to look it up on the internet and see what you can find

Is it possible? Sure.

How do you find them? Well, probably call some of the local colleges and talk to the dean (or someone involved with) the meteorology (weather) department; they would have the right contacts.

Alternatively, find a local TV station and try to get in touch with the weatherman/person and ask them, although nowadays, they're often just announcers and not meteorologists. I think you'd have better luck at the college.

There are groups out there that offer storm chasing tours. All of the sites I have visited are groups of trained/professional meteorologists/storm chasers who know what they are doing. The best way to find them would be to search something like this, and see which one you like the best.

I included some sites I found that offer storm chasing tours in the source area.

experience is critical when chasing storms. without it you probably will be nowhere near actual storms that are producing tornadoes

you also need extensive knowledge of storms and the way they act otherwise you can put yourself in extreme danager along with those on the road with you.

study storms, tornadoes, read everythign you can before thinking about chasing

then again you can always follow the storm chase groups
