I'm not sure what "iys" people means, but the Rhode Island colony guarenteed religious freedom to all Christians and Jews. At that time, that was a pretty amazing guarentee.

The previous answer is almost correct.......Roger Williams started the colony of Rhode Island in hopes that it would be religiously tolerant. It took Oliver Cromwell, the leader of England to approve the measure....Shortly after R. I. Pennsylavia began with approxiamately the same freedoms....It should be noted that what was held to be true in the religious circle did not carry over into the commerical/political realm....It seemed that individuals delt primarily with those of like faith and do not intermingle with the other religions
