What is going on in new orleans is nothing to compare to New York City. The government is totally at fault for the mess that occured due to katrina, and they have done little to aid and abet the clean up and the return to normalcy in New Orleans. The issue there is to rebuild an entire city and make sure the water is clean and get people resettled. it's a huge job that should be handled in a great part by the administration, but they are too busy waging a war that we can't win and should never have even started.
As far as ny goes, living here i see it as a totally different case. Everything is basically cleaned up for 9/11, which is what i have to imagine you are referring to. our city is back to running just as badly as it always has. yes, every so often you hear about the finding of new bodies and new sites at Ground Zero, but basically you can walk through the area and see the remains of the towers, and it is totally cordorned off awaiting the final plans to someday be approved. it is not the administration that is keeping the plans from being approved, it is ny and everyone involved in this project who can not come to a final decision as to what they really want to do with the space. Very different, the clean up started immediately, it continued on a fantastic schedule, and I don't think you will find too many people complaining about the time it took to get the city back into running order.

New Orleans is hampered by a corrupt state, parish, and city government. The Federal Government has released hundreds of millions of dollars to the state but the state has not distributed the money yet. They claim it's because the people have not properly filled out state paperwork. Despite this, the city managed to find money for Mardi Gras parades. I wonder if they may have their priorities mixed up. Do you suppose someone is making a couple of dollars on the interest or in taking bribes to help people get the aid they have been given? If you don't, then you don't know Louisiana.

In New York, the families of the victims of the 9-11 attacks have held up the "progress." The families want the site preserved as a memorial, while the city wants to rebuild on most of the site while having a suitable memorial within the site. Plans and designs have been made, revised, and redrawn. Court battles back and forth have held back the progress. In neither case is the Bush Administration responsible for the delays.

Why, that's a good question that I have never thought of asking. It's called stagnation. Gosh, I love that word when it comes to describing how people with total power and control suddenly got slapped them in their own face and can't do a darn thing about it. Good call on that.

New York made a LOT of progress when Rudy was mayor. NO has Nagin. As long as he is mayor, progress there is impossible.
