They could definately bring your mood down, but actual depression is a chemical imbalance.

Just as happiness is catching, so is depression. I have a friend who is always depressed, whatever you have, she has it worse or more of it. I wish I could break off the friendship because I get way more bad feelings from the friendship than I do good ones. I am just afraid of what she'll do if I tell her I don't wish to continue the friendship.

Of course. Isn't it true that when you are around really happy people, you are happy? It just woudn't be right if you were all giggly and hyper around a sad, depressed person. If they mean a lot to you, that can also alter your mood, because you don't like seeing them that way. I hope everything gets better with this friend and you!

i guess...the depressed preson's mood might affect yours. if they talk about all these depressing things like how bad life is then you will sympathize for them and might start thinking about your own problems...so perhaps, you will be depressed. if you're the type of person who couldn't care less about anyone else, then maybe moods wont affect you. so hte best thing is to always be the optimist and help the others find light in life! :)

Yes, someone who becomes dependent on you can drain. Sometimes it's because you feel helpless because there is nothing you can do. Maybe they don't listen to your concerns and just vent all over you. Asking them to listen to you will help them to see it's not just them going through a rough time, it might even pull them up by helping you. Sorry for so many "thems"

Absolutely! Moods can be very contagious! My dad is always in a bad mood and I've discovered that my mood always goes down when I'm around him, but when I'm around positive people, my mood tends to reflect that.

Oh yeah, definately. In fact many psychology books on self-esteem and self-confidence secrets discourage you from associating with negative people who will just bring you down.
