Depends upon a lot of things. If you're in a field where you've reached the top because you don't have a degree, then you might need to think about taking the step. High paying jobs for high school graduates are difficult to find and difficult to keep. If you are someone who likes to work with your hands, you may consider going to a trade school and getting a certificate through them. Lots of people in skilled trades make more money than I do and I have an MA. It really depends upon what you want and what you're willing to do to get what you want. Good luck!

I disagree with a lot of these responses. I do not think spelling is a good indicator if someone should go to college (even if it was a joke...who the hell jokes around like that?), and Bill Gates is a different story. Unless you can pull a near perfect on the SAT and be able to get accepted into Harvard I would not model my life around Bill Gates. A college diploma is just some thing that will help you with job security. It is a piece of paper that says that I am capable of being able to work at a certain intellectual level and complete something. By not getting a degree you drastically lower your job options, and even you have one that does not mean that you will land a great job either. Maybe taking a year off to work and experience the real world might give you a new drive to advance your education. If you are succeeding at what you are doing that it might not be that bad of an idea to not go to college. You can do a lot of maturing in one year.

It depends on how motivated you are. Some people can manage to start their own businesses and create new products, ideas, etc, without going to college. But learning as much as you can never hurts - and college is a really major point in life for meeting new people, networking, and experiencing new things. I can't see why anyone would forego it if they had the opportunity.
People often find that they regret the things that they did not do, much more than what they did do.

Times are changing and now it's a lot harder for non college degrees to work their way up to the top and get high paying jobs. Sure there are always success stories, but there is a huge diffferences, (10s of thousands of dollars per year) in the average salary.
If your worried about costs, there aare a lot of scholarships. Or if your worried college isn't for you, there's community colleges which are great and offer a lot of vocational programs or 2 year programs!

Yes, we do have to have colleges and universities. And yes, it is also true that one can succeed with just a high school diploma. That's all Harlon Sanders had when he started Kentucky Fried Chicken, and all Ray Kroc had when he started the MacDonald's restaurant chain. If you want to match these fella's success, though, you better have a LOT on the ball - and be d a m n e d lucky to boot!

Do you want to work in food service, lawn maintenance, or some other very close to minimum wage job...then all you need is the high school diploma. Many business entry level jobs now require at least some college, if not the degree itself.
Even people in the trades are getting degrees so they can be project managers or foremen.

The heavier the paper (diploma), the more opportunities you will have in life. There are exceptions to this rule, of course, but only fools bet that way.
It is your life so take good care of it and do everything you can to help yourself. Having a college degree is much better than not having one UNLESS you already got a marketable talent.

statistics show that people with only a high school diploma generally earn much less money (i cant recall but i believe it's around ten thousand dollars less) than those who have gone to a college or university. however, many people have been successful with only a high school diploma. but then again many of these people may have become successful during their high school education such as the author of Eragon. these people are considered exceptional.

It takes you a lot longer to get into a high paying job if you don't have a college degree. I'm making what a lot of my college degreed friends make, but I've been working at my job for eleven years. It makes a big difference at first, but not in the long run.

You will get a lot further than if you did not have one. For instance if you decided to go to college or university you would not if you did not have one.
