well, good point. both cars are swedish manufactuers. both have models in the USA. both have a long history, both with a twist.
saab is currently part of general motors europe and america. most saabs are inspired from their aircraft days, as they also built jet engines. they also have a history on the rally circuit, winning 3 manufactures titles in the WRC in the 80's and stayed in rally racing to 1992. saab's main objective is performance
volvo is currently owned by ford motor company. early cars were nicknamed the "swedish tanks" since they were heavy. they were in rallys too, yet was not as successful. they stopped 2 years later as they were not as fast due to weight. the upside was they were safe, as they produced the first airbag system in 1989. safety is their priority even today.
in durability, volvo would win, in speed, saab would win. a tie?... maybe..... however, saab did produce a safety feature before volvo, traction control. that is a bonus.
the true winner would be saab.
