If i ask a question on how to repair something why would I want to hear " have a certified mechanic do it"? if i had the money for a "certified" mechanic I wouldn't be asking the question in the first place now would I?

Sorry if I offended any honest mechanics that are out here to help, my anger is with Auto Access in Irving, TX who took all my money and left me with a car that they claimed to be mechanically sound that I have watched fall apart over the last 4 weeks since I bought it.
They said the same thing " I've been a mechanic for 30 years and this car is sound".
SES light came on during the drive home and I was told the sale was final., sorry.

With all the newer cars there is a higher amount of learning that goes hand in hand. The mechanical aspect of a vehicle is basic, but the components of these newer cars are more complex and require tools that the average shade tree mechanic will not and can not afford.I would never tell some one not to try and fix /work on a vehicle if they felt that they could do it especially if its a "..take and put.." but the diagnosing is more and more complicated with components that are more and more
A. expensive,and
B. integrated with other features ,that might run you a lot more money to get to than someone with a scan tool for the vehicle, and the ability to acquire parts at a lesser amount..
good luck with your work
These forums of Q/A are great for people who want to work on their vehicles...but there is a limit to the work you can do nowadays

There are MANY repair jobs that require specialized, sometimes expensive tools, and often ability that comes with many years of experience.

Many times, I will tell someone "if you have to ask how to do it, it's a job for a trained mechanic"

Many times, I know this because it's a job that I have personally done or in some cases TRIED and failed to complete, and believe me, I have done everything from engine conversions to transmission and rear end replacement. MOST of this work was on older, pre front wheel drive cars, and they were much easier to work on.

I take it you're just cheap and wanting free advice on a DIY... most of these guys (girls!) are experts and work damn hard on things people like you bag and drive the hell out of every day.. its a labor of love and most of them arent paid enough to fix your mistakes and careless trashings. I cant imagine crawling under a car thats leaking something in my face, driven over God only knows what, and in the end receive a "WHAT? ITS GONNA COST HOW MUCH???"

A little respect here.
You've just ended your 'free advice' ride, you realize that??

Because mechanics do not get paid for what they do, they get paid for what they know, which takes years or a lifetime to aquire.
Maybe you should get free advice some place else if you are not happy with results here

More years working on cars means the more experience.

Well if you weren't such a cheap bastard you wouldn't be here trying to get free advice so if someone tries to help you then you should be appreciative of the help they try to offer.

Because experience means something. If you're so smart, stop asking questions and get to fixin' on it.

They tell you that to reassure you that they have worked on those problems before and they are trying to help, not throw it in your face and brag... just to help.
