I think it gives them the freedom to buy what the REALLY want for their birthday. As far as buying one from Target for the last five years perhaps you should choose a different store this year to kind of surprise her and keep choosing a different store each year unless she likes the cards to be for Target. If she does not live near you check her location for stores near her before purchasing. I send gift cards to family in different states and they love that they can use it for music downloads for their MP3 players on Wal Mart.com

Its better than some lame a** gift that I'll have to take back and get into an arguement with the gift return lady because I don't have the reciept because the person I got the gift from thought I'd like it and I'm too nice of a person to tell them I didn't like it and ask for the reciept. In the end feeling guilty and exausted at the whole *gift* idea. Money's better.

Well, it depends on what you need and how you are...if my brother would get me a gift card, I'd appreciate it, 'cause he lives very far away and does not really know what I need in my house. If one of my best girlfriends close by would do that (5yrs in a row?), I would be disappointed...it is fun receiving gifts someone put a lot of thought into!!!!

I thoughten boughten ain't a word. And if it's the thought that counts, you don't think too much of her.

If she appreciates it, then I don't see a problem. I wish some of my family sent giftcards and then I wouldn't get ugly pink sweaters that I never wear.

I persoanlly think they are an impersonal gift. Means you couldn't even think of something that person enjoys to pick from. Other people have told me they don't mind- But I just don't like it.
