Before people start seeing it is Shanahan lose of desire for another ring that is the problem.

Yes he did well with Elway, but how long can he live on past glory.

It is not all on the QB. If Shanahan was half as good as people give him credit, he could make better playoff runs with what he has. ( Will he need a team with the calibar of past Bronco Superbowl teams to get there again? ) The press in Denver gives him a pass on his lack luster performance since the Superbowl wins. Maybe he needs time off to find that hunger again.

i think if cutler doesn't get it done eventually, shanahan will be out before another QB comes through there...the franchise has basically decided they are gonna let it ride with cutler, and if shanahan can't get it done they will find someone they feel can

Since Elway Shanahan has been through 3 QBs. Griese and Plummer and now Cutler. I think if you do some checking that is far less than most teams have gone through in the same time frame. Plus in that time frame the Broncos have been a fairly consistant playoff team. Shanaham is a fine coach, one of the best in the league, with a winning system in place but like most systems it takes just right mix of players to get the job done. I do like Cutler at QB and the moves Denver has made the past week have been good ones (adding Bly, Travis Henry, Wilkerson). I'd still like to see them get Kearney for a pass rushing DE and then either sign a good FA WR or fill that need in the draft.

First off Shanahan has always been a runningback's coach. Anyone who has watched the Broncos know this, he loves his backs. His offense is focused on a successful running game. He was fortunate enough to have an all-time great in Elway to supplement that.

With that being said, the Broncos knew that Plummer was getting older so they drafted Jay Cutler to come in as a future franchise QB. Teams do this ALL THE TIME. Cutler's young, he's not going to come out in his first year and take you to a Super Bowl. He has to learn the system first. Plus it's evident now that Plummer couldn't handle competiting for the starting job, so he really doesn't deserve to be there.

Also, Jake Plummer was the QB with the Broncos from 2002 until 2006, Brian Griese from 1999 to 2002, and before him was Elway. They were all decent QB's. And that's no more QB's then any other team goes through. You can't expect every QB to come through Denver to be Elway.

Denvers problem is not only the qb nor is it shanahan. Cutler IS the future in denver. he is a great qb with a great arm and has a very good sense of whats going on on the field. Shanahan has not lost his desire for another ring, he just hasnt had all the pieces to get there. Elway is Elway and not many people are as good as he was. The Broncos need to get a solid number two reciver, a legit running back, and a revamped defense and they will be in title contention next year........

RIP Darrent Williams

As many as it takes. You can hardly blame Shanahan for their lack of a successor to Elway. As said, Elway was Elway and there will never BE another Elway. Jay Cutler might have a bright future, but it remains to be seen. He's definitely the answer for now, though. Plummer was way too inconsistent to lead a championship- calibre team, and if he ever comes out of retirement, he'll either be a backup or a starter in a Testeverde-type situation (i.e. some team loses its QBs to injury and needs a quick fix). Coaches can't magically turn any bad QB into a good one, so go easy on Shanahan here.

A head coach in the National Football League losing interest in winning a super bowl?? That makes so much sense!!!! Come on Mr Armchair Quarterback impress me with more of your knowledge.. If you ever noticed there are alot more problems with that team then just a quarterback.. Year after year they produce a very good running game, a solid defense, and a very good offensive line and good special teams.. Thats what makes a great head coach when he is able to overcome the front office and still produce a solid team. The problem with the broncos is the front office.. Remember way back when they had to choose between elway and dan reeves?? Right then and there should have told you where the problem was.. Any front office that will fire a coach of his caliber just to sell tickets with a quarterback really isn't concerned about a superbowl ring.. they are concerned with selling tickets.. and lets face it reeves didn't sell tickets but he has produced a winner everywhere he went. What people need to do is realize what all in involved in a winning team.. A good quarterback is a definate plus, but he is only 1/22 of a superbowl win.. Great quarterbacks just aren't great and overcome all odds.. they always have a strong offensive line, good recievers, a solid running game and a solid defense to keep them off the field and rested and not always playing catch up ball.. My suggestion is stop listening to the press who sells papers by creating stars, but watch what really happens on the field and behind the closed doors of the front office. Thats where the game is played and the winners are produced.

It's not the coach. Even though I have questioned some of his calls. Shanahan has done a great job in keeping the team competitive. After Elway it was Brister who took over. He stunk the place up. Next in Griese, he's dad would had played better. Finally, we got Plummer. Plummer was not the savior of the team, but was good enough to get us into the playoffs and into the AFC championship game. Sadly, that's as far as he could have taken us. Now it's Cutler. I thinnk he can take us back tot he superbowl. Just wait and see.

FYI: Broncos just picked up Travis Henry.

What do you mean how many QBs do they have to go through? They've only been through 2 that I can remember since Elway left and that's Brian Griese and Jake Plummer. That's pretty stable considering what other teams have been going through. Also I'd like to point out that Jay Cutler is the first franchise QB the Broncos have drafted since Elway. He performed very well last year for a rookie and you should be happy about the Broncos' future.

it goes much deeper than that. i live in colorado and people here just dont seem to understand that john elway is retired and is not coming back. elway is there basis for comparison for every QB that comes onto their team. no one is John elway no one is Joe Montana, no one is Dan Marino, and living in the past is a terrible way to start your carreer as a QB.
