I'm on FF.net now, but that site is going to the dogs and nobody is doing anything about it. So I'm hoping someone might know of a site even close to as good as FF.net. If so, please tell me because then I'm going to head over to it instead.

Please and thank you!

there are loads of different sites for posting fanfiction, other than fanfiction.net - and even more if you're looking for a specific category
http://www.mediaminer.org is possible, but it mostly has anime, cartoons and games related stuff - anime being the focus.
http://www.adultfanfiction.net/ is good, however you can only post R and NC-17 fics there, since it was mainly created as a result of ff.net banning NC-17 fics
a generic site you can post fanfiction on is http://www.livejournal.com where you'd just have to get a livejournal and could join one of the thousands of communities there for fanfiction or the more specific ones for certain categories. There you can get specific down to the pairing, while it stays a site where you can post anything. And it isn't that difficult to use either.
if you were looking for a specific category like Harry Potter fanfiction, or DC fanfiction, then I'd be able to point out more specific sites. The ones mentioned are the most generic, other than ff.net, that I know.

Ah, good old FFN. MediaMiner used to be good, but most FFN vets find the interface too cumbersome. If you're writing NC-17 stuff, your best option would be AdultFanfiction.net. Shoujoai.com also has a fanfiction section if you write girl/girl fanfics. Unfortunately, there's no one site that has the scope and easy-to-use interface of FFN out there. There are small sites out there that are of better quality, but those tend to be specialized and don't cover the broad range of topics FFN does.

If you're writing fanfiction for a specific game or show, you can try the fansites for that. Most of them accept fanfics, albeit after some sort of screening process. On the rare times that I still write fanfics, they usually go here:
http://www.tuxedojack.com/mb/

Not as much traffic, and the people on the boards tend to be eerily quiet most of the time, but the mods (like me) try to make the newbies feel at home.
