Oh - been there and done that. Remember that's why they have to PAY you to be there....if it was great and fun then everyone would be lining up to do it for free.

Seriously, give the job a chance. I know when you're young a month seems like a long time, but I would give it at least four weeks (and remember - you could use two of those weeks to work out a notice if you still decide you want to leave). If you're broke, an annoying job is better than no job.

And you can always look for employment elsewhere while you're drawing a paycheck from them. Or you might actually start to enjoy it after you get to know some of your co-workers and you get into a routine......

The choice is yours - but good luck with whatever you decide to do!

If you REALLY don't want to work there the right thing to do would be to go in, tell them that you just don't think it's for you, but thanks anyway, and that will be that.

HOWEVER...

It sounds like you really need a job, Target is probably not a bad outfit to work for (you could likely do worse) and being responsible means sometimes doing what NEEDS to be done even when you don't want to do it. If you NEED the job then you NEED to learn how to do what Target asks of you. Work hard, save money where you can and with luck before too long you will either be able to get a better job with Target, or a better job somewhere else.

Don't give up just yet. I remember the first day that I started with my company. I went home and decided that I was going to quit. My mom talked me into going back and now I have been with the company for 5 1/2 years. Starting a new job is nerve racking - new place, new people, new policies, new procedures, etc. Change is hard! Plus, I doubt they act like that every day. It's probably just some cheesy orientation they do like lots of companies do to get people excited about working there. So be excited!

Most retail places like that are Very Gung Ho - stick it out for a few weeks and see if once you get through your orientation if it doesn't calm down a little - usually once you start working your real job, it isn't so bad :)

If you really need the job the easy answer is to say suck it up and keep going. The more analytical answer would be why do you feel everyone was so gung ho and annoying? Are we sure this isn't projection on your part? I suggest giving it at least 30 days and then if you decide you can't hang, move on.

If you really don't think you'll be happy at the job but REALLY need the money then I would work there until you could find another job. Once the other job is avaliable just tell the Target boss that you aren't happy there and the job just isn't for you. Good luck!

For any new job, the hardest part is orientation and training. It is difficult to say if you will like the job or not until you actually start doing it for real. I suggest pushing yourself to fininsh the training and then see how you feel. At least that way you earn a paycheck as well as a little experience. If you still don't like it then start looking for another job. But don't leave one job until you have another.

Give it a try. Those orientations are ALWAYS annoying, and not realistic in terms of what the job is actually like. You might end up enjoying working there. You won't know unless you give it a chance!

Go to work there. It's their job to be gung ho in orientation, they want you to be excited. That brand of cheerleading just doesn't work for you. So what, go to work and don't let one happy person scare you off.
