Computers used to be machines that could only be used by pros.. then they could only used by people who learnt about it... now everyone can use them... they are so idiot proof, even assembing a computer is idiot proof.. they colour code everything... i'm like 17 and i assembled a computer (as in put it togetether) when i was still half asleep... can't everything be a little more complicated?

ok, i refer mainly to microsoft... you've got to agree that it's basicly made for idiots... I don't refer to any other operating system when asking this question. I use Linux, and although it can be user friendly, you can use a comand prompt and do so much more... like the sort of power you feel when you make a program (even if very simple) using a programing language...

I only wish your statement about idiot-proof were correct. I think they are easier to build and to use, yes, BUT.... when the user is an idiot, the computer can crash & burn just as badly as with the idiots of 1980.

In fact, now, with all the spam, the viruses, the spyware, etc clogging our systems, it takes a person somewhat above the rank of Idiot to figure out how to clean and repair their computer.

I guess that why groups like the Geek Squad flourish.

Idiot Proof? They are far from idiot proof. More user friendly - yes, idiot proof - no.

As to MacGeeks response that Unix command line is complicated, he should try recompiling a Linux Kernel or installing and configuring either Slackware Linux or Gentoo Linux. A Slackware installation requires you know Unix command line and your hardware configuration intimately. And Gentoo takes at least 3 days for a Linux expert to install, a small price to pay for an Operating System that is perfectly tweaked to your system configuration.

Idiot proof? Look at some of the questions asked here and say that again.

Should you need a degree in computer science to operate a toaster? No! If you want complicated, learn the UNIX command line. Until then, shut up.

You can try assembling it when you're full asleep. it may or may not get complicated.
