I work for a college in Florida who is trying to get all employees to sign up with direct deposit. I do not want direct deposit, so they insist on mailing me my paycheck. I do NOT have the option of picking it up at the payroll dept.
Our office got paid on Friday (technically Thursday 12 midnight) to those who have direct deposit. Paychecks are normally mailed 2 days prior to Friday to ensure everyone gets paid the same day (supposedly). It has been 5 days from payday & I have not received my paycheck yet. Payroll told me I need to wait until NEXT Monday to request a stop payment & a new check would be issued the following Thursday. Meaning, my paycheck would be over 2 weeks late.
Legally, wouldn't I be entitled to a new paycheck immediately, since my employer did not technically ensure that I get paid the same day as everyone else? And why would I have to wait to get a new check issued, since if there is a glitch in direct deposit, it is fixed immediately?

UPDATE- contacted the USDOL, they state this is all legal & there is nothing they can do. Now I have to sit & wait for my check, or file for a new check 2 weeks later!
