This presentation must be three hours long with a handout to future counselors. I must summarize strengths, limitations, and populations served through the use of animals. Any websites about this topic will be helpful as well. Thanks.

I once worked at a State-run school for developmentally delayed adults(in Texas & they have a website).
We used dogs and horses with our clients and some of the results were amazing!
Some of our Autistic clients spoke for the first time after being in Hippo (horse) therapy.
Try googling on "Pet therapy" "Hippo therapy" etc, along with developmentally disabled.
Great topic.
Good luck.

I know there are programs where they bring dogs into nursing homes and hospitals to cheer patients up. My grandmother is in a nursing home and I was surprised to see someone walking a dog around. You might call you local hosiptal or some of the nursing homes in your area and iquire about the program.

Hope that helps!

Um, I am no expert here, but you may want to include seeing eye dogs for the blind. I am sure that aside from the guide dog standpoint they also serve a companionship/comfort role for those whom they serve. Just a thought.
