Whats with the deal with Jake Plummer, gets traded and retires. What an idiot. Also, does the Broncos get the unconditional 08 draft pick that came through with the Plummer Deal or Denver gets nothing because Plummer retired. Also, didn't Tampa Bay just lost a '08 draft pick for no reason because Plummer is not playing anymore???

The Plummer trade was made with what they call a "conditional" 4th round pick in the 2008 draft. The condition is that the if Plummer decides to retire, the Broncos don't get the pick.

Obviously, as of yesterday, Plummer has decided to retire. So no one loses anything. That's why the Bucs went ahead and picked up Plummer in case he decided not to retire. I guess you can say at this point it's all null and void.

Also, the Broncos traded him out of respect for the fact that he wanted out and by going through the trade he could retire without a hitch. I think it was a classy move on the Broncos part. They tried to put him in a place where he could get a starting job (this was before the Garcia deal was sealed) and he simply wanted out. They also made it easy for him to retire with the conditional pick.

In my opinion though, Plummer is being a big baby over the whole situation. He could still be a good QB, but he just couldn't handle the fact that he's getting older and that there are younger, more talented guys out there. He also obviously thinks he's so good that he shouldn't have to compete for a starting job. And in the brutal world of the NFL, the only two guys in the league that have a totally secure job is probably Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

This isn't slavery. Plummer has every right to retire if he so wishes. Plummers 40-13 record while a starter for Denver is excellent. Most teams would be happy with that. Problem is Denver has had a taste of SB victory and anything short of that is unacceptable. That being said I think they finally realized that Jake just wasn't going to get them there so it was time to move on. To answer your question.....by Plummer retiring Denver would not receive the '08 draft pick from Tampa. If he does decide to come back then Tampa would own the rights to him and could choose to keep him or trade him away again. If that happens then Denver would again receive the Tampa '08 pick.

When I have watched trades closely in the NFL, the trade is made on the condition that the player being traded CAN play for the new team. If Plummer retires and ends up not playing for the team he is being traded to, then the whole deal can be negated. That means no draft picks. It is like a lose-lose situation for both teams involved.

Denver could incredibly save him on at backup in case Jay Cutler is going down. in spite of if, Shanahan could seem to get a draft %. or somebody to spice up the offensive line with Jake Plummer as commerce bait. Denver could greater effective than probably commerce Jake instead of merely reducing him and taking the loss.

plummer just didn't want to play for the bucs because they wouldn't guarantee him a starting job, so once the trade went through he just quit instead...the bucs no longer lose their draft pick because plummer retired, but the nflpa is challenging the entire trade, if they get their way the broncos would retain the rights to plummer if he were to come out of "retirement"

Well i agree with you Jake Plummer gets traded so he retires because what he may not be a starting QB. Seriously these guys are making way to much money to be saying well I'm not starting so I'm quiting it's all about being a team and playing not about the money or your playing time. Idk about the rest of the question but I thought Id throw in my 2 cents.

the problem with plummer is that he only thinks for himself. He probably didn't want to go to the Bucc's. Or, it could have been that game when Mike the coach sat him down on the bench for the rest of the season.

If he did retire, (I heard differently) then we all know that he's not a team player, No championship with this selfish loser.
