Honestly, if I were you, I'd rather go to the Philippines without a travel agent. There are numerous sites (among them travel.yahoo.com) that can help you plan your vacation and pre-reserve your hotel stay. Arranged tours (found among travel agents in Kore and India) in the Philippines also suck because they only show you some places in Manila and the Philippines which are not even the 'real showcase of the islands'. If you like to really explore the Philippines in all its stunning kaleidoscopic beauty, it's better that you grab a "Jens Peters Philippines Travel Guide" and get going! All travel guides (Lonely Planet, Moon Publications, and jens Peters) about the Philippines don't discuss Manila in detail, and it is better that you just read Yahoo! Travel on those or just get a RoughGuides guidebook for the Philippines.

Another thing, if you are going to the Philippines, better ally yourself with a rich Filipino friend - because the most stunning landscapes in the Philippines are actually part of country clubs and are restricted from public entry (including tourists), Examples of such are Punta Fuego (which really resembles a modern-day Ibiza with all its' palm-tree lined boulevards carved out on the side of mountains jutting towards the sunset-shimmering sea) and Tagaytay Highlands (whose mountain scene and steep highway cliffs makes you feel as if you are suddenly transported into something like the Swiss Alps). THese two are private and are restricted from foreign tourists, sadly. So, as it goes, better find yourself a rich Filipino chum who has access to all of these.

Travel agencies has special discounted rates for hotels, resorts, domestic & international tickets & other foreign services thay you may need like extension of stay, etc. . They can recommend places based on your expectation and budget through options. Its cheaper to arrange tours with travel agencies. Pls check my profile for more information.
