A metaphor about love is going to sound alot different coming from a person who loves, a person who loved, and a person who never loved. It will also be different coming from a person who has been loving and loved over time as compared to new lovers.
My metaphor for love would be a mountain. It is solid and substantial to those who know it from a distance. But up close and personal over the years, it goes through so many changes, and has so many chances of falling apart. Only The test of time can declare its strength and its capacity to endure the delicate balance of all the elements involved.

Love is like a rose, beautiful while it lasts, but quick to wilt and die. :D
Your love is like the sun, brightening every day of my life ^_^
