i'm trying to decide whether to go to school for cosmetology or practical nursing and after thinking about it it mostly boils down to money. i am interested in both but after 6 yrs of being a nurses aide i am a little burned out. and with the high stress and all the malpractice lawyers, i wouldnt look back if i knew i could make a comparable amount cutting hair. the only thing is i'd need to make enough to comfortably support my family.if it means anything, i live in the jacksonville, fl area.

I am not a hairstylist so I can only tell you what others have told me. Cosmetology can be a tough field in which to make a steady income. There can be a lot of competition amongst other stylists when just starting out and trying to get a book (of regular customers). They do say though to go with one's passion and instincts.

If you are already burnt out in the nursing field, perhaps you may want to think about if it's feasible that you continue in that field, at this time. You might already know, but I've also heard that the curriculum for practical nursing is pretty rigorous too. It's entirely your decision though :)
