If it's anything like HP, there is a utility already installed on the computer in a Recovery partition that allows you to reinstall Windows from it if necessary. The partition also allows you to make your own restore CD's just in case. Check under start, and my programs, and you should see an Acer folder with restore program/instructions.

they probally have a seperate and small fat32 partition with has the OSready to go in the event of a crash, also they usaully have a back up and make restore cd that can only be run once to make a bootable cd or dvd restore disk

Acer probably loads it, then you use your own code to activate the license.
