did you spill something on your keyboard? sometimes that causes it to do that,
it could also be a software problem (viruses and spywares) but if it was you will have the computer usually running slow and have a lot of pop-ups
if the problem is a bad keyboard you can get it replace, they are little expensive for laptops (usually $60-$120 depending on make and model) and it will be best if you have it installed by professional (its kind of tricky to take a laptop keyboard out).

It could be that you spilled something on your laptop. If you know the location of the spill on your keyboard you might want to take those keys off and soak them in warm soapy water. Make sure that they are dry completely before reattaching to your keyboard and trying again. If it has seeped down into your mother board, you might be screwed. I would suggest taking the laptop to COMPUSA (theyare an authorized repair center) and can give you an estimate detailing the issue and how much it will cost to fix.

laptops have an 88 key keyboard and desktops have 101 key keyboards. If this setting has been changed something like that might happen.
Dont know how to change it but i think it can be done in the registry.

To get your @ sign, hold down the alt gr key to the right of the space bar. Any time you have more than 2 symbols on a key, you need to use the Alt Gr key for the symbol on the lower right hand side of the key.

Please change your keyboard layout from UK to US.

1.Click to open Regional and Language Options.

2.Click the Keyboards and Languages tab, and then click Change keyboards.

3.Under Installed services, make sure you are using US keyboard layout.
