i appreiciate this question...most ppl think tht a 4 gb flashdrive will and should have a capacity of 4 gb but this is not true....unlike cds and dvds flashdrives dont have the same amount of capacity as mentioned there will be a difference of a few mbs and in a 4gb one to be accurate u can expect only 3.8 gb

One GB is equal to 1000 MB. How much it holds depends on what kind of media you plan to put on it; one three-minute MP3 file is about 6.7-ish MB, and a 1024x768 JPEG file is roughly 200-ish KB.

snehith.pereira is right. It is not a true 4gig. As for how much it holds, it all depends on you and what you put on it. 1 gig =1024 megs.
