Shyness Gene

i don't think that shyness is hereditary, but i do think that people might be born shy. everyone's born with a certain personality, however shyness can occur through the environment. if someone's greatly encouraged to dance in front of a crowd at a young age, then most likely they won't be shy as an adult. and then maybe everyone has a little bit of shyness in them, even the most out-going people. hope i helped!

Yes, shyness is genetic. Although environmental factors play a huge role too, a shy person can get involved in social activities and overcome their shyness and a very outgoing person can become aloof by distancing from others.

i dont think it's genetic since it is so wishy washy. by that i mean that a person can be shy around some people and not others. it's more of a family and environmental thing. the only way i can see genes getting into this is by the person's perception of what they have been given, of their genes. other than that it's family emphasis on looks or beauty, general social interaction, and perception of self that ultimately determine shyness.

Shyness is genetic, as are most personality traits and likes/dislikes IMO (like if you love or hate mustard). The shy actually get LESS shy as they get older (case in point: me). I do not think any one personality type dominates any family, except thriftiness in Scots! (I'm Scottish so I can call the kettle black).

May not be ' genetic' as in a shy gene, but yes it can run in families because of how families interact with children and grandchildren.

My mum was shy, my dad and brother were reserved and then there 's me , who doesn't have a shy bone in her body and never has had . LOL My mum often used to say I don't know where you come from, they gave me a good sense of self-esteem thank goodness.

The people who are different from their parents in this regard are irrelevant -- ignore them. (Your parents carried the genes of every ancestor -- which is why traits can "skip" generations.)

Current research suggests that we are all born someone on a gregarious -- shy continuum. On the whole, this is a stable personality trait.

Environment can have some effect (especially in making people shyer), and people can go through times in their lives when they are shy -- such as puberty.

But it's genetic. It's pretty stable over your whole life.

And it can run in families.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/hPfmv

Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:

Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.

If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

i think it does not run in the genes. shyness is influenced by your environment that's why we observe several families of shy people.
