My pick is Marion:
Why? Because Marion averages a double double from his talent alone(rebounds & points). You rebound on your own & you score on your own. But an assist is actually a 2 man stat. If the other guys doesn't score then it's not an assist. See an assist needs 2 men in order for it to exist. .......and to you guys who says Nash makes Marion better is some BASKETBALL MORONS.
Marion's numbers before Nash:
2001-17.3 ppg & 10.7 rpg (double double)
2003-21.3 ppg & 9.5 rpg (all-star & playoffs)
2004- 19. 0 ppg & 9.3 rpg
See his number were like they are now:

and could you image the Suns not having Marion's double double seasons. They would struggle alot missing them double digit rebounds & points.

You also could get any decent point guard to rack up assist with talented scorers around him, but a SMALL forward that averages a double double with REBOUNDS & points is hard to come by.

I agree that Marion is much more valuable. The thing that sets him apart from Nash is that he can actually play defense. All Nash is worried about is playing offense. He was an above average PG with the Mavericks and around the time he came to the Suns Marion was emerging as a great player and they drafted Stoudamire and added guys like Raja Bell and Boris Diaw so naturally Nash's stats went through the roof. Everyone talks about how the Suns don't do so well when Nash is out well they really struggle when Marion is out too. The thing with Marion is that he rarely gets injured as he's only missed a handful of games the past few seasons while Nash has a chronic back problem that keeps him out alot. I think Steve Nash won those MVPs because he is white and the NBA is trying to fix it's image problem so they thought that having Nash as MVP would make them look better. SHAWN MARION IS THE TRUE MVP OF THE LEAGUE, MOST UNDERRATED PLAYER EVER, AND THE MODERN DAY OSCAR ROBERTSON!

I'll definitely take Marion over Nash. To me, Marion can play guard, forward or even center. Marion can also defend, which is a major weakness for Steve Nash. Marion is a do-it-all type player who not only gets you points, but he also dives for loose balls, executes captivating dunks, blocks shots and rebounds like no other. He really has no weaknesses to his game and he's actually probably the one player I get most excited about watching. The Suns should not ever think about trading him or else it would be the dumbest decision that they could make. Even though Steve does an exceptional job of running the team, if not for Marion, Nash would not look half as good without him.

I say KG, yet its rather stressful to tell because of the fact KG is on a team the place he's the appropriate participant and does maximum the artwork which includes Ricky Davis. Marion is on a team the place anybody is sweet, and Steve Nash provides him a great sort of help. profession stats clever, Kg is the greater advantageous participant, and hes been interior the league plenty longer. Its rather stressful to be putting up those numbers for 11 years while in comparison with Marions 7 years. Kg is basically greater dominant.

Nash is way better.
Do you think 18 points and 12 assists from Nash has nothing to do with their success? Nash doesn't make Marion better. He makes every body around him better, wether its amare, shawn or piatowski, his smart, agile and tricky playing style make everybody much better. with nash out, the suns struggle against the trailblazer, with a clost OT win, then lose 5 in their next 7 or something. Comes back and they win. MAGIC!!! Marion sits out against indiana, no problemo. Win. And they were able to find a star on the bench, Piatowski, who shot very well with great help from Nash. I love Marion, i'm a huge suns fan, but Nash is the key to the suns.

i think the best way to answer this question is to ask...if Nash or Marion were not playing, who would replace them in the line up....

if u take out Nash they start Barbosa, and although he is a good player he is more suited to the SG role. when Nash was out and Barb started, the team lost.

if you take out Marion they start Kurt Thomas (or possibly slide Diaw to the PF). even though Thomas doesnt get the numbers that Marion does, the team still won.

when you look at the team like that, it appears Nash is more valuable....last year marion had a fantastic year, but remember there was no Amare...this year Amare is back. Nash isnt taking things away from Marion. if anything, Nash is making Marion better because even though Amare is still around, Marion is still getting his touches and his shots up....

in addition, not lookin at stats....but from a leadership perspective, nash offers more then Marion...and that in itself is a very valuable thing to have from a player....leadership!!!

But before Nash came to Phoenix, they sucked. Nash made everybody on Phoenix better, Stoudemire, Diaw, Barbarosa, and even Marion. Nash averages 24 points and 12 assists a season, I'd say thats pretty damn good.

Although Marion is lost to Nash from the Assists, but i guess Marion prove to be more valuable than Nash, coz he can do everything from scoring, rebounds, steals, and blocks!

For me It's Marion, Shawn Marion.

you make a good point
but you also have to see on how each player affect the team when he is not playing
i think marion is the best player on the suns team but nash is way more valuable than marion
nash=win
marion= win, but close game or lose

Note that Phoenix blew their winning streak in Philly when Marion was out.

Just because Nash was out, does not mean he is more valuable to the team than Marion. During that period, both of their key facilitators, Diaw and Nash, were out.

gotta disagree. im taking nash. nash is more valuable to the suns than marion is. the suns can win without marion, but they cant win without nash. when phx was without nash, they lost 3 straight. who would think phx could lose 3 straight with that talented squad even without nash they still had amare, shawn, leandro, raja... more importantly is who they lost to without nash: seattle, chicago, atlanta. those 3 teams are nothing compared to phx. phx needs nashs playmaking abilities more than they need marions pts and rebs.
