I think it's mainly about the obnoxious behavior that clowns possess. I'm not afraid of clowns, but I am afraid of loud noises and stuff jumping out at me...so I can see where that fear comes from.

I am deathly afraid of clowns... I have never liked them since I was a child. To this day I will not take my kids to a circus, nor to a carnival or anything that has anything to do with clowns. Everyone has atleast one phobia... Who cares why someone is afraid of something? I don't know why I am afraid of clowns.... I think maybe they are extremely happy people, and deep down inside they are miserable..... I dunno!

I think it has something to do with the way that Indigenous people make scary masks to frighten their enemies. All the features-eyes,mouths,etc are exaggerated and colorful.
Clowns are the same way; they just plain look larger than life and scary.

They just look freakishly freakish in my opinion. I personally dont find the colors and face paint appealing. It just looks weird and unnatural. If that makes sense. For others it could be previous childhood experiences with them.

i would personally say its theyre make up and wacky clothes. they have painted smiles on. theres also that movie about that evil clown. i think little kids can tell by their eyes that they are being fake by having smiles painted on. and they also have creepy laughs.

they are unnatural. they have unnatural features and colors in their faces. they are just weird looking compared to normal people.
they have strange hair and clothes. you never know what they might do because they don't behave normally either. people are afraid of the unknown and the unfamiliar.

Idk. There just kind of weird because they have a painted face which is not real and you don't know what real character is lurking behind that funny face. Maybe they aren't happy at all, they may be evil. LOL
