we need to have an open mind about what is going on in the world, we cant believe everything we see on television and the newspaper. We need to be skeptical and have our own assumptions about the war in iraq, 9/11, oil companies, bush, and everything going on now. why are people so ignorant and close minded? why do they believe everything that they're told?

I think that you are confused. Open mindedness is characterized by accepting things without question. Closed mindedness is not accepting anything contrary to already established beliefs.
I think what you are looking for is sound judgment and discernment of truth. People cannot automatically analyze information. Analysis is always based upon previous events and understanding. People build upon what they already have. If the foundation is bad, then the building/structure will not stand. We have too many people building on ignorance and lack of understanding. The conclusions they build cannot stand. We must learn and grow. We must use wisdom and experience. Then our conclusions might stand.

Well, it's hard to find a news source that let's us do the thinking, most forms of media are biased and for that reason, our thoughts are biased. However, there really are some people that are open minded, me for example.
