A dozen years of Republican dominated leadership in both houses, and Walter Reed Army Hospital is a stone's throw away from the US Capitol. The Dems don't get away scot free on this issue either, but still, Republican leaders had control and oversight for a dozen years.

Should they realistically share in the blame?

No I don't think so. Veteran Hospitals have been in shambles for years, it is not just Walter Reed. It is sad to walk into a Veteran's hospital and see veterans sitting all alone in wheelchairs parked near a wall in a hallway.

I am a 5 year veteran of the Navy, I needed to go to the Veteran's Hospital not long after I was discharged, this was during Clinton's time. I was disgusted by the shape of the hospital and how we were treated there.

I don't think you can blame it on any party, look how our veterans have been treated in the past, especially after the Vietnam war. Many of them homeless, lost their families and not able to work, so what happened to them? The live on the streets.

The problems occurring in the veterens hospitals have been steming from years before now...it's a society and system problem not a political downfault.

Ah what budget cuts ?

Walter Reed is a active Army Hospital

The Army budget increased the last 6 years.

Actualy its not a money issue, its a lack of doing their job issue by the commanders of Walter Reed.

If the commanding general of Walter Reed had taken his staff to the out patient hotel and told them to get this place fixed, it would have been fixed in two weeks.

But he decided he had other priorties.

In this case, its not a political issue, its an Army issue.

And by the way, just incase you don't know.

Walter Reed is not a VA Hospital and is not in the VA system.

And the VA budget has not been cut, its been increased from 47 billion in 2001 to 80 billion in 2007.

you spot, once you're making tax cuts for the very prosperous, some non-necessary classes have have been given to be decrease. you be responsive to like Walter Reed scientific institution, they do no longer choose any money to handle and safeguard, they are basically treating wounded hero's that are sent off to conflict in accordance with a lie. So what if there are some rats, the CEO of Exxon can take excitement in his $10 million a year earnings, who needs the vets as they are wounded and no good to any extent further as solders, what's important is we pad Haliburtons no bid settlement, so the vp can take excitement in a extensive income from his investments. it rather is a repuglican fact that they care greater related to the wealthy and the vast companies then they do related to the working type and the solders that they deliver off to conflict.

Cuts, unconcern, disdain for the working class by arrogant elitist neo-con sycophants and outright plain old fashioned incompetence.

The manner in which this adminstration cares four our troops is disgusting.

Absolutely they share in the blame. The C-in-C has no deniablity. He's the boss. The Sec Def is to blame too and I mean Rumslfeld who left this mess for Gates

The Bush administration has been a disgrace on every level.

abaneezer, don't release the hounds just yet dear chap...

Walter Reed was in the works of being shut down, not an excuse, but I think the decision of shutting it down was premature and should be reversed, if anything, to help with the transition of soldiers' moving from military to civilian life.
Those facilities should be put back to good use.

It can be blamed on the significant expense of a war that doesn't enhance our national security one damn bit.
