What's so special about these earth minerals? Why are ppl so obsessed with them?

It's ther rarity and the expense usually associated with these products that make them popular. Ever since their youth, many girls are trained to think about the beauty and the wealth associated with a diamond. At a time when these gems were far more unusual, they had more worth, but the value has stuck around because of the tradition associated with them.

Hope this helps! :)

Quite simply, supply and demand. The diamond industry controls how many are released to the public, they really aren't all that rare, even the high quality ones. Since people are willing to pay more for something that is harder to get, the price stays high. Culture and tradition plays a big role, too. Many people only want and like diamonds because other people want and like diamonds, and men are traditionally "supposed" to spend a lot of money on a diamond for a woman if he likes her. Several types of gems like amethyst were much more valuable at one time, then discoveries of large quantities of them in places like Brazil made high quality gems easy for everyone to get. The price and popularity dropped dramatically.

Anything rare is attractive to humans...like...having a lot of money or a rare make of car, or even a trading card of some kind or a new gaming system that's just come out. The latest movie or game...tickets to a sold out show...Humans just like to have something that very few other people have because it makes them different and special among all the rest.

they are a chemical compound called crystal lattice structure. this makes them supper durable. but thats just the chemistry behind them. ppl like them because society put a high value on them. they are rare. and they represent etternity because of the strength of the diamonds/gems.

They're shiny, sparkle, and in most places, aren't common.
Diamond is also very hard, and so inscribing, cutting, or abrading tools can be made from it that can cut, inscribe, or abrade better than tools made with a softer mineral.

Precious because only the very rich (or the very foolish) can afford them.
Special because they are rare and exquisite.
People obsessed because it is unattainable for most.
