The federal government doesn't provide housing assistance, other than backing certain loans like FHA. You could get a good deal on a HUD foreclosure, which is a federal program. Most legitimate housing programs (as opposed to down payment assistance grants) are offered by local governments. Check with your city and/or county housing office.

Other than down payment assistance, which you don't always qualify for, the government doesn't really give away money to help you buy a home. There are government loan programs like an FHA that would be available to you. Send me and email and I will see if I can help you. I am a loan officer licensed in florida. I will be able to tell you what programs you qualify for. Send me an email and we can get the ball rolling.

Go to the HUD website at http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hcc/hcs.cfm -- here you can find a HUD approved Home Counselor in the area you are moving to. They can usually tell you what federal, state and local programs are available.
