why cant i get my system restore to work?

i can not restore my computer to an earlyer date whats wrong please help

Try to defrag the hard drive. Start in safe mode after that and try to do a restore in safe mode.
While booting, keep pressing the F8 key to enter safe mode.

If you rarely do a defrag on your computer, the files can become so clustered that they are unreadable by restore....not to mention that if you wait to long, restore wont even be able to do a complete defrag.....this is maintenance that needs to be done on a regular basis.....
