The Lesser Key of Solomon is a Grimoire or magical handbook for conjuring spirits, a popular handbook of sorcery known from the 17th century.
"Detailing the ceremonial art of commanding spirits both good and evil"
"These Bookes were first found in the Chaldean & hebrew tongues at Hierusalem, by a Jewish Rabbi, & by him put into the greeke Language, & from thence into ye Latine, as it is said &c."
But I cannot say why or how it is connected to King Solomon, unless it is derived from the Jewish esoteric mysticism. And it is said in the Bible that King Solomon began worshiping many foreign deities, so maybe the name comes from that.
And for the temple, probably there isn´t any such historical proof for this. And I personally don´t believe that Solomon used any such methods to build the temple. It is only that there are some instructions how to build a temple in the Lesser Key of Solomon.

The short answer is: it is a book of demonology and it has nothing to do with King Solomon. It is the product of 16/17th century European occultists and their dabblings.
A decent introduction can be found at Wikipedia:

1st Kings 3:10-15..........God's Answer
10 It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. 11God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have (A)not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice,12behold, (A)I have done according to your words Behold, (B)I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you. 13"(A)I have also given you what you have not asked, both (B)riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. 14"(A)If you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked, then I will (B)prolong your days." 15Then (A)Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and made peace offerings, and (B)made a feast for all his servants.
