The basics: You must be 21. State law requires handgun buyers to go through safety training as part of obtaining a handgun license prior to buying a handgun. You must undergo a background check and a 10-day waiting period for all gun sales.
More info: No more than one handgun may be purchased by a person within a 30-day period. State law restricts the sale of all semiautomatic assault weapons that have features such as pistol grips and folding stocks as well as a list of assault weapons and their copies such as the AK47 and Uzi. Also banned under California law are magazines that hold more than 10 rounds (stupid and pointless law). Gun owners can be held accountable for whomever fires their gun. Even if it's stolen. State law also prohibits "junk" handguns (guns not in fully working order sold for parts or as fixer uppers).
