Psycho is a 1960 suspense/horror film directed by auteur Alfred Hitchcock from the screenplay by Joseph Stefano. It is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Bloch, which was in turn inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein.[1] The film depicts the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who is in hiding after embezzling from her employer, at a motel run by the lonely and profoundly disturbed Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins). "The Shower Scene" has been studied, discussed, and referenced countless times in print and in film courses with debate focusing on why it is so terrifying and how it was produced, including how it passed the censors and who directed it.

It initially received mixed reviews but outstanding box-office returns, prompting a re-review which was overwhelmingly positive and led to four Academy Award nominations. Regarded today as one of Hitchcock's best films[2] and highly praised as a work of cinematic art by international critics,[3] Psycho is also acclaimed as one of the most effective horror films.[4] The film spawned several sequels and a remake, which are generally seen as works of lesser quality.

Basically it is a Hitchcock vehicle of a serial killer.
A young woman steals $40,000 from her employer's client, and subsequently encounters a young motel proprietor too long under the domination of his mother.

SPOILER WARNING!!!

From memory: It is about a young woman (who wants to escape her regular life) who goes on a road trip. She stays the night a lonely hotel. She is murdered in the shower (the infamous 'shower scene from Psycho). All the evidence seems to point to the elderly female owner of the hotel...but (spoiler warning!!!) it turns out to be the old lady's son dressed as his mother. He has the completely decayed remains of his mother in a room upstairs. Pretty scary, freaky film

It is about a man named Norman Bates who operates Bates motel and keeps his mummified mother in his house. Janet Leigh checks into the motel; he kills her when she is in the shower (famous stabbing shower scene)
