Syracuse is also quite good, as is University of Connecticut.

This question has come up before. Yes, Columbia is noted for its degree in journalism. My question is why major in journalism at all? I took a tour of the New York Times a few years a go. The guide was a journalist/administrator. When someone asked about journalism school, the man said that the Times was more intereted in hiring people with expertise in particular areas (economics, sciene, the arts, law, etc.) and generally did not hire people with undergrad degrees in journalism. I'd suggest you take a good strong liberal arts degree, and if you want take a couple of practical courses in journalism as electives. Good luck.
