My son is 5 months old and teething terribly. He hasn't been very fussy about it until the evenings. For the past week, however, he keeps getting fevers. A temporal thermometer reads 99.7 and every once in a while 99.9. He is stilll eating well but demanding a lot of liquid. Today he had liquid stools but for the past week they have been so solid that he cries about it. He has a urology disorder and needs surgery that is scheduled for next month. What should I do? I'm really worried. My mother says he is just teething but I'm unsure.

I have been giving him baby tylenol but I am reluctant to do so because the instructions say not to if babies are under 24 pounds. He is only 16 pounds.

Babys can have very high temps when teething,up to 104! and the poops is common too. Listen to your Mom she already has been through it all. If your still uneasy, try typing in (TEETHING BABIES) on your search bar, theres a web page out there someplace that will tell you what to exspect. Good Luck!

First off call the doc and get the right dosage of tylenol or motrin, motrin reduces inflimation and lasts longer. The bottle says to ask your doctor for 2 and under but the baby can have tylenol or motrin they just want to dose by pounds and not age. Also a teething baby generally has loose stools not hard ones. So the fever isn't that high but if you think the stools are to hard then at the very least i would call the nurses line to talk to them about it.

No.

It's not a fever until it's over 100.4.
Fevers almost always rise at night, and kids who don't feel good almost always fuss more at night.

Teething can do all the things you list. Stay away from teething gels: they don't work well (most of the medicine just washes right off), and they can upset your son's stomach. Instead, talk to your pediatrician about the correct dose of Tylenol or Motrin--Motrin works better and lasts longer.

Kids can go quite a long time without food. As long as he's taking liquids and not losing weight, he's doing OK.

If you haven't already, try tylenol and see if that works to reduce his fever. A persistent fever should be monitored by a doctor, so you should call his tomorrow morning.

Edit: He can have infant tylenol, you just need to call the doc's 24 hour # to get the proper dose based on his weight.

Your baby can have Tylenol. Our pediatrician told us it was fine. I'd call your Dr right now though if I were you and talk to whoever can answer your questions. Not worth worrying about you need to find out whats going on.

i would call y our hospitals nurse triage line and speak to a professional about it. The nurses have guidelines to go thru with you about what the potential problem is and based on your answers they can tell you if he needs to be seen or not. Don;t trust the people on Yahoo Answers to give you medical advice.
