We can't blame the "woodstock"generation for this.

You could take it back to the first accumulation of excess food in hunting and gathering societies.

If you have any sense of understandiung you will realies that these changes in wealth accumulation and gratification have increased at an ever increasing rate in most western societies.

Technology is increasing in even more complex ways and with it, the latest crazes for immediate gratification.
