Companionship. Married people live longer. Married people support each other. Married people are happier overall. Children do better if parents are married.

Well you will no longer have to worry about what to wear or say during a first date! :) That is always a big advantage.

But seriously, if you are going to get married you should really take a look at yourself. What is the reason you want to get married? is it for love? for money? because you might not be able to find anyone else ever? If its for the right reasons then get married, but if your not ready or if its not the right person deep down in your heart then either postpone the wedding or end it with the person.

Advantages....well you will always have someone to talk to you that will not judge you, you will always have someone there by your side. Tax breaks....some go for this though it really is not a reason to get married.

Remember a marriage is a big commitment, its not something to take lightly. Its a big step for both of you. Just make sure its for the right reasons.

Security as well as other things mentioned by others. Trust is a big one in a traditional marriage in which the vows are actually honored. You don't have to be concerned with STD's because neither of you is unfaithful. You know that someone is there for you when you come home. You know someone is there for you when you leave. You can stand together in difficult times. You can share friendship which is not to be confused with fiend-ship.

Of course, not everyone is meant to be married. Some are much happier single than they could be with someone.

Well, I can mention a couple according to my personal experience:
-It makes things for you easier if you are going to travel abroad (in some countries they do not consider even common law a legal relationship).
-It's easier for you to get a rented place.
-You can pick up packages at the post office that have your spouse's name.
-You can get some documentations easier (for example visas, family docs, etc)
-Your children have the same lastname than both parents (if you choose to use the same lastname) making things easier at school.
-When in an emergency, you are easier identified as a relative (even without further ID if you are having the same lastname)
...those are the ones I have experienced in only 5 years of marriage, I don't know if there are more, or if even some of those are the same for another kind of relationship.

Studies have shown that married people who kiss goodbye in the morning have less health problems and a happier life than people who don't.

A partner to share ups and downs with. Monogamous sex (can be a blessing or a curse depending on your match with your partner). Personal growth. Life is better when it is not all about you.

Nothing. The government is actually punishing married people now. It's only an advantage if you both want it.

a shared commitment to each other and a formal declaration to the world that you two are now one unit.

Plus, you never know when that stupid "only family can visit" thing can pop up. You don't want to be stuck in the waiting room!

You get more money on your tax return
More married women cheat than do single women
Someone to keep you warm at night
The feeling of being trapped in a cage
Its good at first, but it gets old, and you want something new, but you cant have it.

huge advantages if.... if you don't understand and agree mutual expectations then it isn't. people should have to get a license and attend classes to qualify for a license. otherwise no marriage. it is a partnership and too easily wrecked. pity.
