That is a little sad that you have to ask that. Independence Day celebrates the Declaration of Indpendence coming into existence. The day that our forefathers gathered together and decided to declare our independence from the tyranny of England. We just celebrated bicenntential of the Declaration in 1976.

it kind of depends on what country you're in.
in the USA it is independence from great britain (england)
but in mexico it's independence from spain, other countries
became independent from italy, etc. and it's not always
even european colonizers. could be independence from other conquerors.

if you are talking about u.s. independence that would be independence from GB(Great Britrain)
