Why does it seem like people don't care anymore? People are so quick to label others as liberals if they do! The supreme court is going to soon rule on a law that takes away the writ of habeas corpus for suspected terrorist, and makes no provision for American citizens, despite the fact the generals admit that sometimes they get the wrong guy, yet the still end up with no rights detained just because the president said so! Our President has been given more poor than any other president and much more power than our founding fathers wanted a president to have! Why are people so apathetic these days?

Originally Thomas Jefferson wrote that slavery was forbidden in the constitution, the other guys didn't like that sooooo.... they changed it before it was voted on! this is Ironic because Thomas jefferson owned slaves, but apparently he had a thing for black women as well! so the constitution was not created as a document for slavery!!! please people read more!

and the U.S was never created to be a true Democracy, it was created to be a republic, something like Rome... which is why we pledge allegiance "to the Republic for which it stands" not democracy... so the guy that called it a myth just irritated me... But anyway I'm just afraid the apathy will continue amongst american voter or lack of voters!

Those days you speak of are a myth.

Never happened.

It is part of the indoctrination system of education in the United States.

The Constitution was such a pro-slavery document. History has been revised to cover this up.

People in the lower classes were not even considered. Nor were women... nor Blacks.

So the days of holding politicians accountable is a lie.

The ruling class maintains itself. The Constitution is a reformist document used to create an aura of democracy. It is used to benefit those in power.

Look no further than Bush - v - Gore to see how it works.

I disagree with you when you state that people are apathetic these days. Most people agree with you that George W. has more power than our founding fathers ever wanted. I believe that the people of this country are just as angry and frustrated as you are. I know I am. However, the problem is that this president has too much power. People don't do anything because they can't.

The constitution's elastic clause has given the government the ability to justify anything it needs. The presadent can use this clause to justify the patriot act and others that limit our rights. The government needs to be watched at all times.
