to charge your ipod: Plug it into your computer with the adapter it came with.
To put songs on your ipod: Click into itunes and either buy songs from the i tunes store or download music from your cds. then go to the top toolbar and click on file. scroll down untill you see somthing like "Sync to ipod" yours may be different so just try to find one that looks like that

You charge your ipod by plugging the white plug that came with it into a USB port on your computer..and plugging it into your ipod. You put songs on it by going to Itunes. If you don't have it then go to apple.com and click itunes on the top. No you don't have to pay for the songs but you should by buying them off itunes.
