Stevie Y. He won three cups, was captain for 20 some years. Played for one team his entire career. Without question it's Yzerman

Even though many feel he may be getting old and may be somewhat injury prone.. the best player on Detroit is Dominek Hasek in my opinion. When he's healthy and on his game he's likely the best goalie who's ever played. His career save percentage is likely the best there ever has been. He's won 2 Hart Trophies, 6 Vezina trophies, a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and has single handedly stolen games when he played with Buffalo and later with Ottawa and Detroit. His style of play has been criticized, ridiculed and mocked by some but his uniqueness and
success are indiputable.
Lidstrom will go down as one of the best all around defensemen to play the game and is a sure hall of famer but Hasek in my opinion is the best talent on the team and when considering the careers of every current member of the Red Wings I feel Hasek stands out above all the rest.

Being an avid Redwing fan for many years, I would have to say, that their best all around player has gone to the New York Rangers and that is none other than Brendan Shanahan. He was not only always one of their leading scorers, both on the power play and 5 a side, but he was also always there as a team leader and not afraid to get a fist or two in when the situation called for it. He also isn't too bad on the eyes either, right ladies??? Can the Rangers please send him back to us in "hockeytown"??? We miss him terribly!!

I don't Think we have a BEST player right now.WE have a great TEAM. Every person on it contributes to the game.Holmstrom parked out front , Pavel flying around defenders,Zetterburg making defenses heads spin,Maltby and Draper getting under your skin and on your last nerve, Linstrom,Chelios,Schnider making goal scorers nervous. And some pretty dang good Goal tending as well .Our rookies are stepping up and doing a great job.All in All a darn good TEAM!!! AS for ALL TIME it would have to be GORDIE HOWE #1 SAWCHUCK#2 and of course STEVIE Y.#3 but not necessarily in that order. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yzerman. He defined the team for the past 10 years. Lidstrom is great but Yzerman was the heart and soul of the Red Wings.

Nick Lindstrom, but Zetterberg and Dasuk are no jokes either. Anyone who tries to fill Stevie Y's shoes has got to be the man on a team like the Wings, so Nick's the man.
Steve Yzerman retired or he would have been the obvious choice.

If you mean NOW, it's probably Nicklas Lidstrom who has won the Norris trophy several times and continues to be one of the best defensemen in the game. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hasek would be reasonable picks.
If you mean all-time I don't see how it can be other than Gordie Howe. With no offense to Yzerman, also one of the greatest to play the game.

Stevie Y would have to be - I like Gordie and all, he's a nice guy but Stevie endured playoffs with a bum knee in 92 just so they could win the Stanley - How great is that? The "Great One" is not Wayne Gretzky - sorry folks - I'm a "Wing Nut" all the way.
