Why am I hearing all this crazy stuff about San Fran? Ive already booked a trip there for this summer with my husband and my three kids and now people are telling me to keep my kids away from there. What is all the fuss about? Am I missing something? I was imagining something from like the show full house or something. Very nice area with beautiful scenery!

People are telling me to keep my children away from the gays. They will molest my sons. They are also telling me that they is alot of violence in broad daylight. First of all I have no problem with gay people. As long as they are ok with me, I am okay with them, but the molesting part and the violence, I have a problem with. I certainly hope they are wrong!!

There isn't any more molestation or violence in broad daylight than in any other city all over the world. Where are you from that you are hearing this? Ask them if they've ever been there and if they can judge from whatever they heard last night on Fox News. Are they afraid that you'll "catch" something in San Francisco and infect the town when you come back?
It's good that you're not concerned with gays, because there will be more than you recognize. They're completely wrong about the molestation and violence. You and your children have nothing to worry about. I'd be more concerned if the people you've been talking to ever happen to visit San Francisco, their closed minds and xenophobic attitudes will not blend in so well.
It's not exactly Full House, although it's a beautiful city with spectacular scenery around the bay. If you can, take a hiking trip up north of the city in Marin; you'll have to cross the Golden Gate Bridge to get there (and if you get lucky with the weather there are amazing views of the ocean and the bay).
Hope you return from a wonderful trip and are able to set this "crazy stuff" that you've been hearing straight with the truth.

That is just ridiculous. Gay people don't go around molesting children or anything remotely close to that. Have these people telling you this crap actually ever been to SF? B/c if they haven't they have absolutely nothing to base that on besides propaganda. Although they did do something last Fri that was pretty out there. The mayor and a few elected officals held a ceremony commemorating the opening of the city's first gay porn studio and proclaimed it "Colt Studio Day" and they held a celebration right in front of city hall. I think that is pretty damn ridiculous and I wouldn't want to walk by that with children. But by no means was it some big gayfest where little boys were being molested. I have no problem with gays but that was just in bad taste. Just stay away from any protest rally's and stay away from the Castro District. Not that anything would happen in the Castro but you probably don't want your kids seeing what people walk around there in. The vast majority of the city is prefectly fine and suitable for kids. The city is pretty out there but it's not as bad as the rumors that people who have never even been there say it is; it's just ignorance and scare tactics. SF is a georgeous city and you will have a great time.

Is it Homophobia? Please don't feel that you have any need to fear. The Gays and Lesbians are living here along with us straights because this is a beautiful city that is laid back and tolerant. You won't see a label on the forehead to identify who is gay or lesbian or straight. It could possibly be the boss, co-worker, your best bud, your doctor, dentist, favorite shop keeper or parent to your child's best friend who is gay or lesbian. A few will look like they might be gay or lesbian -- but you can't always count on it.
This is a city populated by people of many cultures -- a cosmopolitan city. That's why there is such a great variety of restaurants and food stores. My three children were born and attended public schools in SF: They feel privileged to have been able to grow up living in SF. A visit to SF should give you and your children a lot of opportunities to share many things.
San Francisco is beautiful so bring your camera. We have an excellent transit system with the Muni Metro, cablecar, and buses. There is a lot to see and do packed into a relatively small place. Come to SF and enjoy yourselves.

Wow, who are these people ? bigots?
Certain neighborhoods, I would avoid bringing children. There are some area's and parades that allow nudity and are overly sexed, but for the most part and in the touristy area's San Francisco is wonderful to bring children. SF is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen.
Likely you will be touring the Fishermans Wharf, Candlestick Park, Alcatraz, Sausilito, take a harbor cruise.... On the North side of the Golden Gate, take the first exit and head UP toward the sea, park and watch the big shipping barges come into the City, you will have one of the most bearth taking views you will ever see. A great place to take your kids is the Exploritorium by the Palace of Fine Arts, both you and your children will love it.
SF is very multi cultural, lots of fabulous aithentic restaurants, great nightlife.
Og try going here: My children were mesmerized by the early 1900's toys and mechanical games, carnival attractions, etc. , very unique place. http://www.gocitykids.com/browse/attraction.jsp?id=245

Who ever told you that the gay people there are going to molest your children is bs. Straight men are more likely to molest your kids. Not all of San Fran is bad and full of "gays". Not everything thing you hear about Frisco is true. You should look up some information on Frisco.

You're hearing nonsense. SF has a reputation and it gets exaggerated. The gays have plenty of other gays to pick from and probably won't even notice you and your kids at all. Gang activity does exist, but it's confined to places you won't be going to as a tourist. You may not want to take your children down castro street because you might not want them seeing the blatantly gay sometimes adult themed outdoor ads. But that's about it.

I have been to San Fran. and didn't encounter any problems at all except for one of the homeless guys who started a fight with another tourist because the tourist wouldn't give him a donation. Take tours of Alcatraz, Napa Valley. I'm not much of a city person, but San Fran. impressed me and I can't wait to travel there again someday.
