In Boxing, you throw a white towel in the center of the ring when the cut man decides that his fighter is too badly injured. That symbolizes that the fighter is giving up. I guess thats possibly one reason, and another reason is white is the international color for peace... in the really REALLY old day a white flag symbolized that one was peaceful or surrendering.

Thats what boxers' trainers do when their fighter is done and they want the fight stopped. The trainer will throw in the towel to let the ref know that he's not coming out for the next round.

they got the term from boxing. boxers dont necessarily want to quit even though they know they are losing. If the manager could see that his talent is getting beaten to a point wherein it will cause severe damage that might ruin his boxer's career the manager throws in the towel and this signals to the referee that their corner has already decided to quit.

in boxing, when a boxer is being beaten badly by his opponent, the people in his corner (his coach, trainer, etc.) throw a towel inside the ring to catch the referee's attention and automatically stop the fight.. in billiards, when a player knows that he can no longer win the match, he can throw a towel to the table to signal that he's quitting..

it's from a very old boxing tradition, where the corner people (the 'seconds') would save a boxer further punishment by literally throwing in a towel to signal the referee they wanted the fight stopped.

comes from boxing. they would throw the towel in the ring as a sign that you accept your defeat (before you got beaten up completely)

guess its because of boxing, when the trainer feels that his boxer has had enough he throws in the towel meaning thats enough. and for your other comment i guess that means you just had enough with doing other peoples laundry..
