well, it shouldn't but if you are eating more junk than healthy foods your body can be lacking in nutrients and cause your skin to break out.

Chocolate has been blamed for many ailments including acne, tooth decay, obesity, and lacking of food value. It has also been known to have an anti-depressant effect, cause hypertension and even have an aphrodisiac effect.

We know that chocolate is basically harmless unless, like everything else, it is over-consumed. Chocolate has been found not to cause nor aggravate outbreaks of acne. These results are backed up by further research that shows acne in no way is affected by chocolate.

Recent scientific studies have suggested chocolate boosts the serotonin in the brain that produces a calming effect and stability. Stress has been identified as a cause of acne. If chocolate stimulates the serotonin and calms the nerves, then chocolate could ironically be found to assist in acne restraint.

Chocolate lovers will be pleased to know that nutritionists believe chocolate plays a nutritional role in a balanced diet. The facts are that chocolate carries about one-third of an adult’s daily requirement of antioxidants.

Food in and of itself is not responsible for acne. There are, however, other elements that cause acne. The first being heredity, hormones, skin type, cosmetics and the environment.

If however, upon eating something there is an outbreak of zits the next day, it is advisable to stay away from that food for a while. Much research suggests that foods do not cause acne, but it has not been proven as fact. If on eating the same food again after a few days the result is an outbreak, the chances are it is an allergic reaction rather than an outbreak of acne.

Any excess sugar is not good. If you like chocolate, get a good organic dark chocolate from Whole Foods. This is a good question because you recognize the link between what you're eating and acne.

You have to attack acne where it starts, with your diet. For me, diet was the cause and solution. Topical medications fight the symptoms. Start by eliminating trans fats and eating more fruits and vegetables. Once you start cleaning up the inside of your body, by eating properly, the outside of your body (your skin) will be get cleaned up too. I started a website to document my problem and solution.

You might find it helpful to read my story. Just remember to eat an all natural/organic diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Stay away from processed foods. Use mild, all natural cleansers and don't pick at your face. Get lots of sleep and enough water for your body weight. Remember, clean body = clean skin. While you're waiting for your skin to clear, remind yourself that acne is a challenge that you will overcome soon. Once you're rid of it, tell all your friends how you did it. That's what I'm doing. God Bless.

I think it really depends on how your body responds to it...what you eat effects everything in your body, so if you get zits after you eat chocolate...then don't eat it (or at least cut back). Or, try washing your hands after you eat it, because for most people what makes them break out is that they touch their face after or while they eat it.

in addition, i just found this on Oprahs web site in her Debunking Beauty Myths section:

Lie: Greasy food and chocolate cause breakouts.

Truth: Have you ever heard this one debunked before? Then why do you still believe it? The truth is that sushi and shellfish are the only foods that may exacerbate acne, because of their high iodine content, says Diane Berson, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at Weil Medical College of Cornell University.

This old wives tale has been going around since the 1950's! Acne is caused by bacteria getting caught in clogged oil glands. I had almost no acne as a teenager but loved chocolate. It is also somewhat hereditary. My mom had flawless skin.

NO!! Food does not affect your acne situation. Do not be fooled!! Something else deviant in your routine is probably causing you to breakout

I don't think its a fact but all junk food is not good for you. In general females get more zits while on their periods and thats also when you crave chocolate.
