Nationalism teamed up with Religion. It kills ... over and over and over and over and forever and always. Will they ever learn? Who knows!

People were at war long before there were any nations. Our chimpanzee " cousins " make war, though making up a nation would be a stretch of the imagination.

A little bit never hurt anyone ,but if there's too much nationalism, then yes it might breed war.

No, it doesn't because the concept of nationalism is meant to unify people within the boundaries of the region, and to promote peaceful and harmonious living. It doesn't implore people to go and capture the next country! It is separatism and fundamentalism that breeds war.

You talk as if nationalism is a bad thing. It actually can be very good and important to a country- on a lot of levels. It helps education, safety, volunteerism, just to name a few.

And of course, just like with religion, it can be perverted to rally someone to a cause that may not be very just or logical, like war- but to suggest that the safest way to avoid war is to be disconnect from one's own roots or one's own God is like to kill yourself so you can never kill another person- there are much less drastic and benefitical ways to curbing war than to loose a strong love and connection to your motherland.

Not unless that sense of nationalism is grown at the expense of domestic suffering or economic decline, such as in N.Korea or post WWI Germany.

In a healthy economy, a solid nationalism fosters increased consumption of domestic goods, increased and better quality civil service employment, and a general sense of hope, which is critical to engendering entrepreneurship, domestic population growth through childbearing, social stability and a host of other benefits that ultimately translate to economic benefits.

the entire idea of nations and borders makes no sense. in short, nationalism is the only cause of war because without the thought that your nation is distinctly separate from the world as a whole , there would be no war at all

Yes, most definitely so ! Look at the former Yugoslavia disaster or you can simply refer to WW1 and WW2; both were basically results of distorted patriotic feelings...Today we witness many a conflict on religious basis...If I assume, we could say most powerful generators of war today are: economic underdevelopment, poverty, nationalism and religiously motivated fanaticism...
