For the past few days, I've had the "dull, low backache". Tonight, I've had it, and quite a bit of swelling in my feet. My last Dr's appt they told me that I was only 50% effaced. That was a week and a half ago. Today, I went in without an appt b/c of the back aches and my neasea and when they checked me they said that I was 100% effaced and 1 cm dialated. The back pain has gotten a bit more intense as the day has progressed, and I was wondering if it could be early labor. As I said, its been going on since about last thursday, but tonight its A LOT stronger than it has been. Do you guys think a bath or shower might help? It really hurts, and it just moved around to the front when I stood up. Advice please!!

Hey.. i am in the same situation you are.. I am 36 weeks pregnant. I am 1 cm dialated .. maybe more now since its been over a week.. Since wednesday i have been horrible back pains that brought me into tears & contractions like crazy. Then they will all of a sudden stop. Weird but whatever!!! I keep taking showers and baths over and over again because it helps me calm down and the hottness feels good on my back. But i think its just in my head thinking the hottness helps my back... Its so painful i know

Try kneeling on all fours. It gets a little more pressure off. It wont help all the way. My mother, who is a mother of 5, told me she thinks my baby is facing the wrong way. Head down but facing the opposite way he is suppsoe to... Maybe thats whats going on with you also. Ask your doctor for a sonigram and having her check the position of the baby, and not just by her feeling it, by a sonigram. Good Luck!!

You are looking for contractions that are getting longer, stronger and closer together. You may feel them low in the front or low in the back. If you continue to feel them in your back, get on your hands and knees, this may help turn the baby into another position that will take the pain from the back and switch it to the front. Labor pains are bad enough in the front, so do what you can to get that baby off your back. A nice warm bath or shower will be nice and relaxing, just don't take one so hot that you get dizzy and fall.

Use a heating pad on your back.

I was dialated to five and not in labour...
The braxton hicks just would come and go and kept dialating me more and more but woudn't send me into labor...i was fully effaced as well. It took about three weeks for me to actually go into labour...so you may still have a while to go.

Those braxton hicks would kill my back...i would lay on my side with a heating pad and a trillion pillows all around me. Warm baths and massages...!

As long as your water has not broken then a warm shower might not be a bad idea, if it does not go away and the pain does come and go then try timing it. that is exactly how mine was, and it turned out to be back labor. i would just relax take a shower then if the pain does not go away then call you doctor.----hope this helps

If you believe it is a progression of your prior pain please visit your doctor. It is likely your labor is happening. You should grab your bags and head to the hospital, worst case they will send you home until the morning if you aren't progressing. Are you close to your due date? Is the baby doing ok? Good Luck and God Bless.

yes, you are in early labor. you need to start timing your contractions. yes, a warm bath may help but if your labor continues to active labor nothing short of an epidural is going to ease that pain. good luck
