How do you make your pictures look like sketches?

Trace them on tracing paper with a charcoal pencil or import the photo into Photoshop and use one of the "artistic" filters.

I use photoshop cs and open the pic and go to filter

pencil effect.

Try add few layers and play around it or even mix it by coloring

and texture.
